Dasra Philanthropy Week kicks off at month-end

Philanthropists, social entrepreneurs, impact investors, foundations, corporates and sector experts to explore India’s biggest social problems.

Dasra, India's leading strategic philanthropy foundation, is bringing together over 600 leaders from different spheres to discuss some of India's biggest social problems and how these can be addressed through strategic philanthropy and effective support to organisations on the ground. Dasra Philanthropy Week will be held in Mumbai from February 28 to March 6, 2013.

"India's social sector is witnessing rapid transformation with both philanthropy and entrepreneurship increasing in size and impact," says Deval Sanghavi, partner and co-founder, Dasra. "We are witnessing more innovative models in funding, organisational structures and delivery mechanisms than ever before. With multiple stakeholders playing more active roles in the sector; collective action needs to be built to ensure maximum lives are impacted in the most effective way possible."

Sanghavi added that large-scale social change requires broad cross-sector and stakeholder involvement. "With the Dasra Philanthropy Week, we are hoping to build an ecosystem where stakeholders are aligned with a common agenda to improve the millions of lives in our country in the most scalable, sustainable and impactful way possible," he said.

On the penultimate day of the event, Dasra, in partnership with GIZ, the German Society for International Development, will discuss the findings of a recent study conducted by Dasra on how collaboration can exponentially increase the effectiveness of foundations and overcome challenges in creating impact at scale. In addition, leading impact investors including Omidyar Network, Acumen Fund, Social-Impact International and others will discuss how domestic capital can be unlocked and invested into innovative enterprises to find business solutions to social problems.

The week will conclude with the third annual Indian Philanthropy Forum (IPF) and the launch of Bain & Company's Philanthropy 2013 report, which maps trends in philanthropic giving by India's high net worth Individuals.
